WCdance is established in 2008 in Taiwan. Wenchung Lin, the artistic director, focuses on the basic element of dance for delineating humanity in pure movement with believes in nonverbal communication. The aesthetics and philosophies of Lin’s choreography effortlessly exhibit his background in both eastern and western training. Critical acclaim has found his works to be lush, genuine, humorous, and original.
In 2008, WCdance made its world debut with an evening-length work entitled [Small]. Taipei Times acclaimed “a highly polished jewel of a work” and later selected this production to be one of the “if you missed these performances you really missed out” amongst year round productions in 2008. Half year later, the small series production No.2-[Small Songs] once again won a critical acclaim-“[Small Songs] makes a maximal impact in a minimal space,” and “Lin has made a virtue out of minimalism”…etc. by Taipei Times in 2009. The works has also invited by the Taipei Culture Center and the Japan Society to take part in the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) in New York. It’s also received the European magazine Ballet-Dance’s praise: Lin proves big works can exist in small spaces,” and “Lin’s dance vocabulary crosses borders and traditions, as Western contemporary dance is infused with Eastern elements.” Harboring the essence of dance and the ideal for physical creativity and music, WCdance presents the Small series No.3-[Small Puzzles] in the fall of 2010. Choreographer Wenchung Lin, downright genius screenwriter Lee Chien-chang, and esthetician of ruins Jui-chung Yao all together create a small, novel, and pore work. Taipei Times acclaimed “with his latest work, Small Puzzles, Lin Wenchung proved he is more than ready for the big time.” In 2010, WCdance was elected as one of the seed groups receiving supports from the Council for Cultural Affairs.
WCdance would like to, on one hand build up unique styles and features of works. And also combine the innovation of tradition and the promotion for culture and art, in the hope that is can realize performing arts in our life. Lin’s works speak internationally for movement is an original form of communication. The language stems from his personal experience and background with intent to perpetuate universal interests. WCdance undertakes the mission long-term collaborating artists worldwide, and advocating dance as a universal art form.
